Wow, you can do a lot with a 150gal! You can pretty much take your pic of most cichlids, except for the larger new world fish.
With a tank that size, I would seriously think of going with colonies of 2 tropheus species. They aren't as bright as the yellow labs, but have gorgeous darker colors. They do carry a heftier price tag though.
If they'r avaliable...down under, Copadichromis mloto midnight mara, is a cichlid to look for, they are black.

Here's a picture of the "black white"

150Gal in the US
124Gal in the UK
You would be able put several small fish in there or a pair of some large breeding fish Like Jags or Red Terrors. Just dont try the super large like Peacock Bass Dovii's or even unbee's which are smaller but are way to mean. Just give us ideas what your into and from where. More info and stuff you let us know your into the better we could help. Also what kind of tapwater do you have in other words test the hardiness of your tap and the Ph.

Wait! We don't even know what type of water Big Ears has. Depending on water quality and whether it's hard, soft, alkaline, acidic, neutral, etc. how can we make any recommendations?
So how about it? What's your water like?

Well for the most part, it's easier to up your PH and hardness, so I'd imagine it would be easiest to match a Rift Lake environment.
Then again Tropheus are a little more pricey and more 'advanced' fish, so I don't know if you would want to start off with them or not.
well if i was u i would bye some severums, they dont grow to big, there not overly aggressive and they have wonderful dark colours, u could try 3 pair of severums a pair of green severums a pair of golden severums and a pair with a green and gold, they would look amazing in that tank and they are very sociable cichlids, they would be great fish to watch.

yea those severums are nice, but we dont even know what kind of water CHEERS_BIG_EARS has or what type of fish he had in mind to get yet.
but i always recommend blue acaras, or jaguars/golden jag. but not both in the same tank. a pair of jags or golden jags would look so cool in a 150g.

i know big ears and he'd probably be going for maybe a breeding colony of small to medium cichlids that arent too aggresive. he had convict breeding pair but gave em to me after they go too numerous and aggressive, at the mo he's got 10 electric yellows and a possible female carrying eggs. this might narrow down the possibilities but i know he probably wont go with a large aggressive cichlid like i have (peacock bass) but theyre in a 6x2x2. that black one pictured above, how much lighter would ya wallet be after forkin out on that little ripper? are they even avaliable in w.a. if so i would be more than interested.
hope this helps
