I have recently noticed that my GT has long trailing feces. they are brown in some parts and stringy and white in others should I be worried about this?
haha nothing to worry about. That is pretty normal, just make sure he has varied diet and he'll be fine. My oscar does that. after he gets krill its orange and with bloodworms and pellets its stringy and white, and after feeders its grey. Not to be "open" about my fish lol, just letting you know he's fine.

That makes sense then, I gave him frozen blood worms the other night. Do you ever feed them earthworms? my GT seems to love them but so do my catfish.
only fish of mine that eats bloodworms is the jack dempsey but she absolutly loves em and earthworms are a great source of nourishment :). you should definatly keep feeding them as a treat to a GT especially.

Stringy white feces can be a sign of internal parasites.

are there any other symptoms I should look for?
Scratching gills across hard surfaces, laying on its side, flashing or darting really fast, fins clamped against body just to name a few of the common ones.

The only time he displays any of this behavior is darting, and this is only if I approach the tank too fast. If I move slowly he will swim up to me and stare seemingly begging for food. I will keep a close eye on him.
flashing (the darting im speaking of) is way different and you would know something was wrong. The fish kind of takes off really fast for just a few seconds then stops dead in its tracks shaking its tail violently usually then does it again and again sometimes rather frequently.
