I just picked up an African butterfly fish for my 20 long. The tank houses a pair of kribs (whom I'm watching closely, but they really ignore anything that doesn't live near the bottom and anything weird - you know, like my spastic bristlenose which seems to freak them out :p ), a bristlenose pleco, and 3 cherry barbs. I've also read the ABF and kribs are from the same biotope - although the same can't be said about the bristlenose and the cherry barbs (unless you call it a Waldo Petstore Biotope - then it is perfectly kosher since they all came from there!). Also, before anyone says anything, the tank is very well covered - glass top with a piece of plastic even over the cut out for the HOB filter water return.

Wow, the ABF is one cool fish :D ! It reminds me of a dwarf arrowana/dragon crossbreed (I do know it is related to arrowanas) that I can actually keep in a smaller tank. Right about now, I'm more enamoured of the ABF than my kribs which says a lot about the ABF because I'm a certified cichlidiot.

Anyway, anyone ever breed these little guys? I'm tempted to buy a 29 gallon tank so I have extra height to play with and go find the little fella a girlfriend and see if I can breed them.

Good choice on fish, I've had mine for months now this time. It was one of my favorites years back. I've discovered that it loves those same crickets pet stores make available for reptiles. Verocious eater as well. For more info on breeding them try this site.
