My cockatoo's spawned a couple of days ago.
I got up this morning expecting to see little wrigglers and the mother but i couldn't find them. I looked in her pot, no female and no eggs - great! they've hatched i thought. after a few minutes hunting i found her on the bottom dead!
What happened? All parameters are fine and the other fish seem great. My first spawn too!

Could it be her first time spawning?
Sometimes they will eat their eggs the first time.
I don't have a clue why she died, perhaps too much protein from eating her eggs.

it was her first spawn since i've had her (about 3 weeks).
a fairly large one from what i understand. there was roughly 60-70 eggs.
she was fine the night before. still gaurding her eggs and a really bright yellow. looking great!
then 8 hours later - dead!
A female cacatuoides will reach 2" in size.
If yours was about that size, she most likely has spawned before.
Are these cockatoos the only species in your tank, or do you have some other species amongst who you can find a possible suspect?

the female was about 1.5"
i have some khuli's, panda corys, tetra's, and gold gourami's. but she really did rule the tank gaurding her pot! unless she died protecting her young from the gourami's.
i could see no visable signs that she had been beat up though.
i guess i'll never know
