I found a Pacific Blue Tang and a Phantom Banner Fish....can either of these be introduced to my reef tank? (45g)

To avoid the abvious - I am only interested in one of them in the tank, not getting both.

Thanks for the help

Well, definitely no on the blue tang, it need at the very least 70 gallons. Phantoms get to be around 7 inches long and need lots of room to hide in a tank, I don't think that a 45g would be a good fit for it either....sorry. Maybe others have a different take on this.

I was just reading on another site where they said the "Blue Tang" was a great reef fish but needs a 50 gallon tank, since I am not upgrading anytime soon that certainly eliminates the BT. Thanks for the response.

I would like to find a reef friendly fish that was colorful and not a "bottom dweller". I already have 2 clowns and a bi-color blenny. Andy ideas???

How about a dwarf angel...I know you have to be careful, but I've heard lots of people who successfully have one in their reef tank. I like the flame, coral beauty, and pygmy myself. They would also be able to hold their own with the clowns. There are also some reef-safe wrasse out there that are pretty cool. Good luck and let us know what you get (pictures are good too)!

I went to the LFS later yesterday and looked at the coral beauty and it is incredible color. I ruled out the banner fish. Saw an anthias - was pretty but the color was subtle. The LFS is getting a large shipment this week so I will go back next weekend and look. The man at the LFS who is a bit of a legend in the area said that the angels are nice but it really is 50/50 as to reef safe. Some are perfect and some will still nibble at your corals.

Also, being a bit pigheaded....I am looking at the costs and feasability of upgrading (already) to a bigger tank. I really appreaciate everyones input!

Oh. forgot to mention that the wrasses are in the upcoming shipment, he only had a great one that is in the "not reef safe" catagory. I forget the name.

Remember that oftentimes the fish won't show their true colors at the LFS because the are stressed. You'll also see many juvenile colors vs. adult colors. The anthias and wrasses both have so many different types you might find you love them just not the ones you encountered.

Thanks again Grins....I am waiting til the right fish comes along. I really like my tank and am not in any great hurry to just put a bunch of fish in. I am focusing mostly on the coral and the fish are "added eye candy". The clowns were a must have as a pair becuase I got them as babies (CB) and will have them for quite a while.
