corkscrew vallisernia

Hi, I have some corkscrew vallisernia in an african tank (shelldwellers so not worried about them tearing it up). I have 2wpg light and a sand substrate. Just curious if I need to fertilize to keep the vals alive and growing. Or are they easy enough that they don't need any extra fertilization to grow.
