The pic was taken from the end view. The shells aren't really as close together as it looks. And the glass is very dirty, but I don't want to stress them out by cleaning it off just yet.

Very cool fish and good pics. I would also like to get shellies one day when I get a new/free tank. Multies sound very interesting. They are not as attractive as some of the other shellies, IMO, but I have heard their behaviour is much more interesting as they will develop into a small colony.

Valerie, you're from Edmonton, where would you get shellies? Order them in, or wait till they have some at Big Als?

Nice pics and fish. Are those tetra blood worms and tetra cichlid stick containers behind the tank ;)

question:dont you think the size of the shells are to big?

The guy I ordered them from said to use shells with opening of at least quarter size. I had a terrible time finding enough shells! The larger fish actually prefer the larger shells. The smaller ones haven't really picked out homes yet. They just dart into the nearest shell. They are in a 10g tank. I have no idea what the male/female ratio is. The guy I ordered from said he gave my a wide variety of sizes in hopes of having a good ratio.

Joe-which pic are you refering to? My tank has looked like a jungle at times...especially compared to first starting out. I really like the hairgrass. I would like to have one whole side nothing but that!

LOL-you are right. Should maybe say "grown in".

Yes on the blood worms. and sort of on the stick only its TETRA CICHLID MINI GRANULES. All of my fish are small, and they seem to all like the mini granules. I also feed betta flakes :p even though I don't have a Betta.

These fish are so cool. The only way I can watch them is to sit about 3 feet away and not move. Otherwise they dart into the closest shell and hide until they think it is safe again.

They do seem to like to eat though:D .

Molino- yeah i'm from edmonton, you from here too? I have never seen any in the LFS around here. I asked on the Edmonton aquarium club board and they said that most likely have to get them from other hobbiests. They said there are sometimes some multies at the auctions but there weren't any last time. If you didn't get them from someone in the club or who has them then you would probably have to order them. Are you part of the club?

Droooooool!

Nice pics, Skittyfish...I've now got some ammo in my quest to get my parents to let me have a shellie tank! :)

(I've already got the 10g and will be getting a tank for the Spilurum...can I manage to get a third tank in the house, too?)

I was given two old ones from a LFS, I paid $1.99 for another at a different LFS. I bought a bag of shells at Wal-Mart and picked out the larger ones that looked like one they could get in. Took me two months to find enough.
