my green terror has been breathing heavily the past 4 or 5 days.he also has not ate.I found out it was mouth fungus. He has a thin white line around his mouth and can't seem to close it.What i want to know is what is the best medicine for this?

Fungus spores are in almost all water, but are unable to attack fish because of the mucus coating on the fish's scales. When a fish has been beaten up, the mucus covering is destroyed and fungus can form on the wounds. Do you have any other fish in the tank with him that he may be lip locking with?? Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Fungus Cure is what I have used in the past and worked well for me. Saprolegnia fungus is contagious and you should treat the tank the fish is in.

Mouth fungus is not caused by saprolegnia but by the baceterium Flexibacter columnaris.

An antibacterial medication is called for.

i have a red pacu,a flowerhorn,a firemouth,a clown knife, ajack dempsy, and a oscar and a female convict in a 100 gallon tank.i used easydose fungus cure the last time my dolphin cichlid had fungus and it didn't help much.

This is probably because very few supposed fungal infections really are. Costia, columnaris and half a dozen other bacterial and protozoal infections are more common than fungus.

At least that's what my handbook of fish diseases saith.

Kinda crowded in that tank dont you think, your aggresion level is prolly pretty high unless all of those fish are juviniles, and I am sure even then. You might want to think about either getting a bigger tank or reducing your population some. red bellied pacus get HUGE! not to mention the other fish you have in there all can get al least 8" or more with the exception of the smaller convict.

thanks for all the help and your time.my fish are also 2-3 inches, except the pacu he's a big baby at about 5 inches.i plan on getting a 260 gallon in the near future,so maybe i can get the agression level down. Again thanks for all the replies, sorry it took me so long to reply back.

Not looking to unload the 100 gal are you? heh.....
