Electronic or magnetic ballast?

how can you tell? i bought some NO Fluorescent fixtures, that are 2 years old. they are the ones avaiable at the LFS for a very high price when new. I'm not sure if i can stick t-8s in there. i read on a website that t-8s can only go in electronic ballast.

can anyone fill me in?

Sometimes you can tell by the weight. If the ballast is very heavy for its size, then it's probably magnetic. Electronic is supposed to be better, more energy efficient.

well, i can say that my double tube fixture is a good 10 pounds.

10 pounds each that is. i got 2 x double tubes. = 4 tubes total in 2 fixtures.
