I have a 700 gallon pond with five gold fish. One goldfish is from an aquarium and is about 7 inches long. The other 4 are feeder goldfish that survived when I put them in my pond. About a month ago I saw baby fish and just thought they were baby goldfish. Now that they are bigger I am not so sure. They are all a dark grey with a lighter belly, and when they move a certain way they kind of flash a silver color. Could there have been eggs on some of the plants I ordered for my pond? If they are goldfish when do they turn gold?

If there is a lake/stream/pond close by, they could have also been dropped in by accident by a passing predator. My sister has the same fish in her pond as the creak acrossed the street and seem to be some sort of striped minnow. We chalked it up as a couple of fish might have been dropped by a bird in flight.

Happens all the time. Also, fish eggs are excreated by shore birds and some survive this as well.
It's pretty common, depending on geographic location, for a newly formed water body to have fish within a year.
The place I work at had a recent rock slide near a hill top (no water present from a higher location except via rain wash) and when we went to inspect it for stability a little over a year later, there was a viable population of perch present!!! All baby's

Mosquitofish are transmitted via birds and other predators pretty easily.

ok-the answer is!!!!!!!!! goldfish. My brownish silver baby fish have turned into goldfish. Several are the usual orange color, three are white, three are multi colored, and there about 6 that are just starting to change color. I sure would have bet that these fish were not baby goldfish. They sure didn't waste any time having babies. Thanks for all of your responses. I am trying to get some decent pics to show and will post them when I do.

How cool!
My pond is two years old, and I noticed last week for the first time ever the goldfish were all chasing one of the other goldfish in the pond. They had her up against various plants, over and over. Now this week I noticed she is looking a bit plump. I haven't a clue what to do with any babies if they survive, my pond is at maximum capacity as it is. I've heard from other ponders around here that no one around here seems to want them, and of course they can't be turned loose into ponds/streams, either.
finsNfur: You might not have to worry. Goldfish will eat their own eggs.

That's what I figured. We also have four bullfrogs living in the pond, I bet they will eat those eggs like caviar!

I think if my neighbor had a pond, I'd secretly add more goldfish to it on a weekly basis... Make him wonder whats going on...

My comets spawned the first year I had them. Someone had said that they had to be 2 years old to spawn....
