I'm doing a fish-less cycle preparing for my 65 gallon.

BUT, i need to first wait a few weeks because some workers are coming over to fix my carpet in my room. so i can keep anything on the carpet for another 2 weeks maybe.

my questions are:

can i do a fishless cycle in my 10 gallon and when i get the 65, just put gravel + filter from the cycled 10 to the 65?

how should i know how much ammonia i need in the 10 to withstand a bioload of 20 or so cardinal tetras that ill have in the 65.

i had problems finding ammonia at the drug store. i've heard of just putting flakes in the tank until it gets all messy. is this good idea, or was i reading wrong.

Where else can i get ammonia, other than the non scented at the drug stores.

thanks

I do tank swaps all the time. I did a tank swap from a 5 gallon to ten gallon last month which houses 4 clown loaches and 5 Aenus Corys. I will do the same as they all progress and grow. Adding the substrate, filter, etc from the ten gallon to the 65 would help the tank cycle alot faster but your still not in a reasonable range and will encounter nitrites again for about a week or two...

so it's impossible to cycle a 65 g in a 10 g. even though i plan on feeding my 20 cardinal tetras little. while i plan on putting a lot of ammonia in the 10. is it possible to make the 2 tanks equivelent.

btw, im using AC 300 (3 foams) + HOT MAG (filter floss filled) on the 10.

ChinaBoy, you can get suitable ammonia at either Walmart or IGA, in Toronto. The name brand you want is called AMEX Clear Ammonia- all purpose cleaner. It is a yellow and white and red labeled, semi-transparent plastic bottle. I called the Colgate company and they confirmed that the product contains only ammonia and water. This is the kind you want for a fishless cycle.

That I don't know. I don't go to the Big Al's on Steeles and I can't recall if the one in Scarborough has any. I would be hesitant to buy fish from them anyway since most of their fish don't look too healthy alot of the time.
