I found some nice-looking pieces of driftwood at the river today. Any suggestions on how to make it safe for my freshwater aquarium?

I like to make sure its dry then I boil them if Its small enough if not a dish washer WITH OUT SOAP and NO HEAT DRY.:D
Others will post their ideas but their is no foolproof method eventualy you just have to cross your fingers and dunk it.

i got a peice of wood(not in a river)cleaned it up boiled it coated it in hyrogen peroxide then let it drt over night then coat it again the dry then put it in my tank it floated for awhile but i put a rock on it but now it saturated and doesnt float at all

the hydrogen peroxide is to clean it and will also remove most tannin stains as well:D thats if you dont like them but the wood has to be dry to the bone before you can add the peroxide.

I like to boil the wood a few times (if small enough) and then I let it soak for at least 24 hours in water that I have put some water conditioner into. My water conditioner is supposed to get rid of heavy metals and it may be over kill but if I find something outdoors I never know what it might have been exposed to (lead, copper, oil etc...).

God, MAKE SURE IT'S NOT CEDAR OR PINE!!! I made that mistake and it made a nice terpintiney film on my water's surface. Both those types of wood are toxic to fish.
