Hi all. i have a few questions that I hope some of you can help me with. I'm preparing to move and been debating on how to setup my 300 gal. tank. I'll iether do it as saltwater like my 55 or a planted freshwater. I've never done a planted tank, so I'm wandering what type of substrates and fertilizers work well for large tanks. any other thoughts or recommendations on setup and maintenance will also be appreciated.

On such a big tank, flourite would save you alot on Iron ferts in the long run. That's if your going for semi-full planted.

Geeeeesh, another Kentucky person.....I think we should rename this place "Blue Grass Central".
Robert, in answer to your question, size doesn't matter. The type of substrate you use and the ferts you use aren't contingent upon the size of the tank. If you are serious about getting into plants you want a good base for your plants to grow in. Many of the people here use SeaChem Flourite or Onyx. They are fairly small grained and rich in elements that plants require....but costly.
The amount of fertilization depends more on the plants you want, the lighting you'll have and how well you want your plants to grow.
