have a chocolate oranda with a nasty red sore on its bottom back fin, there is also a 1cm spikey thing comming out of it, have to tried remove it with no luck. any ideas?

The red sore is your amonia is too high you need more bacteria added to your tank to counter act the amonia. As for the spike thing I would have to see it. My fancy goldfish had the same problem red sores but I treated it with bacteria and it healed up.

Biospira is the name of a product that adds beneficial bacteria to an uncycled aquarium. It must be bought cold and must have been always kept cold straight from the factory where it was produced. Once it warms up, it dies.

You're not treating the fish's wound with bacteria, but adding bacteria helps the aquarium grow the invisible beasts necessary to digest the fish's ammonia output and with the ammonia gone the sore can heal.

Doing water changes works just as well, but will take a lot longer.
