Here (http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=2242462&uid=1184930) are some pictures of my 75 gallon tank. Do you have any suggestions on how to make it look a little better? Thanks.

Very striking and good pictures!!! I'm not much of an aquascaper but I think that if I wanted to keep the overgrown look at the top on the left, I would attach some java moss to small pieces of driftwood and grow them in the dark area of the left side in hopes that would lighten up that corner some. I can't really see if there is anything there right now. I'm using Marsiella in my low light ten gallon which would be a possibility too but I'd think the java moss might be a better choice in contrast.

Jeremy, you're tank looks great to me. Nice and healthy looking.

The only thing I feel it needs is something in front of that dark area over on the left. Perhaps a nice bright red ludwigia repens, although that might get a little tall there. Just something that will stand out against that darkness.

Nice looking tank.

Looking good, but I'm not sure about the dark, left side..
The plants look real healthy.

Look great!

Your sword has become a tree, Plantbrain mentions the same problem. Maybe a smaller sword or a crypt in that corner wouldn't grow quite so massive.

Is that a C02 reactor tied to the input of your ecco filter? Give me a quick sentence or two on that please.

:)

Yes, I have the intake of my eheim ECCO 2235 hooked up to the aqualine 1000 reactor. I just cut the host in half and then went to Home Depot and got an elbow connector so that the hose wouldn’t kink on the bottom. The reactor comes with mounting brackets to attach it to the wall. I added a few more pics of the equipment at the end of the thumbnail list so you can get a better idea of it.

I have the same reactor, only a different eheim. How do you like your reactor? I have mine hooked up to the out instead of the in though.

The reactor is working great. It’s definitely worth the $80.00. I have heard that it’s better to hook it up on the intake of the filter instead of the outtake because when you have it on the outtake it decreases the filter flow allot more then when it’s on the intake. It’s also better on the intake side because the water pulls the CO2 bubbles down with it so the CO2 dissolves faster.

Very nice and healthy-looking! I would replace the egeria in the back corner with something prettier and redder. Alternanthera or Ludwigia repens come to mind. Or Cabomba furcata (aka piauhyensis, the red one), if you can find it. Keep us updated :)

your right side looks nice, but the left side needs developing. as everyone else said, do something about the darkness. maybe cut the plant back so light can get throught to the front. I would suggeset scaping about 10 different plants into the left side rather than having one mass of plants that covers 4/5 of the tank. ya know? maybe keep the portion that is above the log on the right side of the tank. add a strip of green plants that grows tall. place it so it connects with the pennywort (or whatever you have down in front) and make it curve around the log and grow taller into the back corner. add some other plants inbetween the bunch of massive plants on the right and the strip of plants. maybe add a few strips of large red leaf plants in that area. then add another one of those swords (the one on the right side of your tank) to the front left side. then add some gloss. to flow through the foreground while interspersing some dwarf hair grass. add some smaller leaved stalk plants to the left middle ground in front of the strip of green plants and place them so the flow into the green strip. maybe add some crypts on the log to dramatize the broad leaf look. add some anubias to the forground to accent it. scape in some more stalk plants so they flow from right to left throughout the tank. add some microsword in front of the log and on the left side. put a darker stalk plant behind the sword and the other plant on the right (make it cover the background behind them and make it go from tall to short starting on the left end of the bunch).

woops. didn't mean to design it for ya. if that was my tank, thats what Id be thinking tho...

so have fun touching it up. maybe you like it how it is! have fun with it tho!

J-

You might consider some small branches coming out into the dark area below the sword. Sort of the "roots" of of the plant/tree.
Also some rocks or horizontal wood etc would do well there.

I thought perhaps a staircase going upwards to the back of the tank would look cool. If you trimmed/pinched a few swords leaves, it could open up some room for light for some Xmas/Java moss to cover the rocks etc.

Without radically changing the tank, these are some ideas for you.
If you like that look, Crypt crispatula var balansae in that corner has nice leaves that are narrow and block less light. A group of them would make a replacement if you ever get tried of the sword.

Tom Barr
