I know the Hagen CO2 system is meant for use with aquariums that are 20 gal. or smaller. I have a 29 gal. planted. Would the system do anything for my plants?

Are there other options? My aquarium is in my living room and there is no storage for an unsightly CO2 bottle so I'm looking for something small and tidy...can't stand clutter!

Thanks!

Beth - going strictly from what I've heard and read here and on other forums, I would say that it will help some. But in that size tank, not much. If you want to seriously grow plants you need good light, good ferts, and a good source of CO2. IMO, the Hagen system is not going to give you nearly enough CO2 in that tank. Maybe you can go with a pressurized system and make a cover of some sort to put over it to hide it. I've heard that people have done that with show tanks. Just a thought..........

I agree, go for two of them if you want great results

We're house-shopping right now...gonna get a bigger one. I may just wait until we move and get a new stand (the aquarium is sitting on a cabinet that contains my china right now!). I'll probably end up making my own. Once I have a stand, I can add DIY CO2 and hide the ugly bottle. I hate to spend the money on two Hagen systems right now.

Maybe the new home will have room for another tank!!!

Thanks for the input guys! You saved me a bundle of dough! (And the disappointment of having puny results!)

for a 29 gallon, I would think you will want to use at least 1 powered reactor, or two diffusers. If you aren't sure of the difference, a reactor uses forced water to disslove CO2, where a diffuser allows the CO2 to dissolve as it passes to the surface. The longer the CO2 is in the diffuser, the more of it that will be dissolved. I have replaced all of my diffusers with reactors I built from PVC pipe and a powerhead. Hangs on the back of the tank, is about 12 inches long and keeps plenty of CO2 in the tank for the plants.
