View Full Version : blind tetras
my neon tetras seem to be going blind! the black part of their eyes seems to be growing smaller and the white area larger. i noticed one of my neon tetra was blind when i first bought him but i thought that it was okay since he still swam, ate etc etc per normal. but today i realize that another of my tetra is turning blind. it swims to the surface area and when i put my hand near the glass it didn't swim away as it would normally do as they are quite timid things thus obviously showing that it has gone blind!
i wonder if there is a cure ? or will it affect my other fishes? and what is its cause?

well with humans you cant cure blindness with medication(i might be mistaken)you need to go under the knife and it would be hard to operate on a neon tetra lol

They might not be going blind. They could just be adjusting to your light. Turn off the lights and look at his pupils. They should grow larger. Just like ours do in the darkness.

My g/f has a goldfish that I swear has no eyes. He got really sick and his eyes um dissapeared. It seems like you can see into his head, it's really weird. He eventually got better and he still eats and swims around it's just weird to look at his eyes, or lack of.
these are pretty neat.

i don't think my tetras are the blind cave tetras but rather neon tetras that have gone blind!alos they seem to have this tendency to jump out of the tank. some of my friends have nicknamed them the suicide fishes instead!:) i guess my neon tetras should be fine since the two blind fishes are still alive and feeding. it just gets a little worrying at times! thanks for all the help! :)
