just curious about something... I've noticed that since the weather has finally warmed up around here in WNY my tank water has gone from 74-75 to about 78 degrees and steady, sometimes it hits the 80 mark on the warmer days. Now, I have my heaters turned down to 73 ( they don't even come on) ..the blinds drawn and the windows open, even at night. My house temp is only 70 -72 degrees w/o the air cond. even on and it has only started being like this within the last 2 weeks. I don't think it is the lights as its only 30 watts for a 20 gal and the temp maintains even at night and early morning when the lights are off. I've got a 100 watt Ebo on the 20 and a 50 watt ( brand new ) on the 10 gallon and both are holding steady at 79. Previously they have been rock steady at 76 for the last 10 months or so, only varying slightly during water changes. Any ideas? I took out my pumps and stones about 2 weeks ago because I don't have Co2 for my plants and I read not to aerate if that is the case. However I can't see this making much of a difference because prior to taking them out I had not used them in months anyhow....any opinions would be welcome...thanks a ton!

That's probably due to the lights, I'd assume that your water level is rather high. My tanks run that temp here, sometimes higher, I don't see it as a problem. But, there is less oxygen at higher temps.

Without CO2 added, you would actually be better off to return the air pumps, that way you will have at least ambient CO2 levels and O2 levels. Without, the plants will use up what CO2 there is and algae is a probablilty.

Were you adding Co2, the pumps would drive the CO2 level toward ambient levels, defeating the addition.

Probably better to add the pumps and airstones back in.
