Where can I find this prefilter? Pet Warehouse doesn't have them, also Google search turned nothing except few articles by different fish forums. I would like to use them as canister prefilter.
I live in Bergen County, Northern New Jersey, so may be some names of local shops that do carry them would help
Thanks.

Here you go. They ship to the USA as well. http://mops.ca/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/cgi-bin/smpagegen.exe?U+scstore+lfmz4823ff841584+-c+scstore.cfg+-f+0+-C+Pre-Filters I buy from this place frequently.

nutz, i just lost this post... the gist of it was tho.....

an alternative to buying the fancy prefilter, if you can't find it... is using an aquaclear filter sponge. cut it to size and shape and either "x" or hollow the middle, and slip it over the intake.

same kinda idea and you can find the aq sponges everywhere.

That Pet Place carries them for $7.99. Search on 'Filter Max'.

For me, the AC sponges are too coarse for prefilters. Also, who needs a big ol' white cube sticking out in your tank? Black prefilters are unsightly enough...

Just a pointer when using the prefilter. When syphoning water out for water changes, turn your filter off and syphon the prefilter to suck the crud out of it. Otherwise, when you pull it out to clean it, you'll leave a trail of stuff behind. That stuff doesn't settle too fast and you wouldn't want your filter off long enough to let it settle so you could syphon it out.
