nice to be back posting again. been wandering shortly online and stumbled into this product called planted aquarium substrate (http://www.carib-sea.com/eco%20fresh.jpg) by Eco-Complete. anyone heard or tried this stuff? may be a viable competitor to flourite and onyx sand.

just passing the info along...

It look like the same as live sand you can buy for the salty tanks. mmmm..... cycled substrate for fresh water tanks.... sounds cool I'll keep my eyes open if I see some around.:)

I actually have that in my tank.picked up a 20lb bag for around $11!

It isn't just "cycled" sand, but "cycled" substrate! This has the iron (etc) that a planted aquarium needs. My swords are doing just fine without any root tabs (they are heavy root feeders).

Look at the element analysis.

The question is.... wher can I get some? was going to redo my tank with onyx, but if this stuff is cheaper, I want it!

gomer, nice... let us know in a while how it's working out for you. where did you find it? 20lb. for just $11 sounds like a good deal.

p.s., i've looked at your web link and noticed a home theater. i'm sort of a ht junkie myself, too. those 2 white pillars against opposite corners... are those SVS subs?

Are you suppose to use it straight or mix it w/ gravel? Is it dusty like Flourite?

I got my substrate at Pacific Reel in buenapark, CA
The best part about the substrait is that it doesn't really cloud the water when you first add it!!!!! So far all is well. My plants (including swords which are heavy root feeders) are growing really well.

As for the hometheater, those tubes are helmholtz resonators. they help tame my 60hz room mode.

Since you are a junky, here is some more to look at:

This is my old setup. Shows you more room shots and parts to my next project (Usher 2-ways)
