Well I must have two male clowns. Today I got home and they found the sebae...they were both playing in it and then I looked a little closer and it would appear we are having a bit of a turf war. Why couldn't one of them change to female. I am hoping I am wrong but will watch closely in case I need to intervene...so far it is like two little boys rough housing. Keeping my fingers crossed.

When i first got my clowns they both were like glue. They explored the tank together. Now one is picking on the other one. He doesnt beat him up to bad but chases him away sometimes. they feed together fine, just a few bumps here and there. I can tell which one is the dominant one. How long does the sex change last, and will the aggresive one stop once its established his dominiance?

My clown also dug up a little ditch in the sand in the corner of my tank, he hangs out there some times. (the less dominate one did it) why did he do this?

Dont mean to invade on your thread, its all about clown behavior though!! :headbang2:

Almond you likely do have two boys for the time being. They don't tend to be as aggresive as the girls so you don't have to worry as much about a murder. I'd just sort of keep an eye on them and let them work it out. Shortly one of them will achieve dominace and be a boy no longer.

Max. Thank you for the info. I am still very new to clowns and their behavior. I really like the coloring of the two I have and hope that one changes to female soon, my poor anemone will be pulverized if one of them don't make up their mind.

My two have been best of buds for a long time, acting just like your described yours.

Thanks again!

David

Kodiak, you are not interloping on my thread, hope someone can give you an answer, I don't have enough experience to share anything on clowns.

They remind me of a fish version of a scottish terrier (I have two). And my scotties raise caine all the time, like my clowns, seem to be looking for a laugh.

Answer this one quickly then back on the thread OP's Initial post...

The one that is picking on the other is what will be your dominant female clown. Once it changes to a female, it will stay that way, permanently. Clowns do not have the ability to change back once gender has been established.

The aggression will eventually fade away the male gets to understand the pecking order he lives in. Eventually, the aggressive nature will only appear every now and then, as and when the female believes the male needs bringing into line.

Thanks

Niko

They are False Clowns Amphirion Ocellaris and they are about 1 1/2 to 2 inches long.
