just brought home 2 "trimacs" today, funny how they are bolivan rams, but hey whatever.

i've been looking for a few nice looking males for around a month, so i walk in, check the american cichlid tanks, and sure enough there's a tank with nice red and gold colored males. written on the tank is "trimaculatum 4.99". so i figure that they havent updated it yet and flag the fish guy. I say those arent trimacs, they're bolivian rams, but anyways i need 2. the guy argued with me for 5 minutes until he consulted his littl fish dictionary. he looks up trimac, and i point out the large green fish that looks nothing like what is in the tank, he then says "well thats an adult, -blah blah blah-". just my luck the book doesnt have a listing for bolivian ram and i couldnt remember the **** scientific name. In the end he smuggly says "well thats what we get whenever we order trimacs" so i point out the significant differences between the "trimacs" and the flowerhorns the same size in the next tank. The clerk appearently believes that flowerhorns are a pure species because he called me a lier for saying they were a trimac hybrid.

"whatever, give me my rams, and when you get home do a picture search on trimaculatum and bolivian rams"

Haha...I can't believe these people actually work at the the petstore when they can't even tell the differences. Oh my gosh...how could someone mistaken Trimac with Bolivian Ram? Apparently, the pet store needs to give a thick encyclopedia to their employees to get familiar with fish to help customers.

I've many experiences with these clerks. One time I mentioned that Oscar can grow to almost adult size within a year in a big tank. The clerk argued with me that the Oscars (four) they had for 3 years are still growing. Well, duh...that Oscars they have are housing in 50 gallons tank with three 10" Pacu...yeah...they sure have a lot of room to grow.

Clerks even mistaken Blue Acara as Green Terror. *sigh* I think us, fish hobbist know more about fish than those fish store clerks.

acara and GT's at least have the same body shape as juvi's. rams and trimacs is like confusing a poodle with a pit bull.

True true!! Still, people who open fish store should know about fish...or at least...educate their clerks. I can just imagine that newbie walked in...wanted an aggressive fish...and the clerk gave him a Bolivian Ram as Trimac...hahaha...

When I saw the topic title I had thought you wanted to mix the 2 in the same tank... would end up being a nice mix...of body parts of the rams stuffed into the trimacs gut :)

Got to love useless LFS employees.

Haha...I would definitely wish the person good luck if he/she tries to mix a poodle fish with a pit bull fish. It would be more likely the Ram ends up in Trimac's "always hungry" belly.

As for those employees...I don't trust whatever they say. Every time I want to buy a new fish, I rather look into Cichlid book or internet to get better information.
