I need some ideas. I'm thinking about putting six of these pictus cats in a 55 gallon. I'm looking for a group of fish that would go on a frenzy during feeding time. Would a group of these do that?

What else will go with them? Pictus can get large, and my feeling is that in the long run, they will outgrow that tank. Not sure if they frenzy--IME, they are very active fish, constantly swimming around. Anything smaller than their mouth will be snacked on regularly--they're not really aggressive, just hungry.

they do go into a feeding frenzy, and it is quite interesting to watch, with that many I would be careful about your decorum as they require open space at the bottom of the tank to swim in. And yes they are very active and energetic. They may not be aggressive but they are territorial, I have one in my 55 gallon and he has staked out a ceramic treestump I placed as a center piece. If one of my CAE's goes anywhere near it they get rammed.

oriongirl, it will be a species tank.
dave76, I didn't know that they can be kept singly for a long period of time. Perhaps six is too many.

in that small of a tank I would agree, 3 is a nice number though

Tinfoil barbs go nuts at feeding time... especially when they get a little bigger. Any barbs for that matter.
Tiger barbs are cool fish, have you checked them out?

tiger barbs go well with pictus cats, I had 15 (five green, five albino, and five regular, in with mine for the extent of thier lives. Very lively fish and cool watch school and fight.
