what the hell a blue acara your dempsey must be very very timmid kirckey and is that an oscar in the top right corner???
going on general cichlid rule i would say thats a male not sure though

That might be a juvi Green Terror and not an Acara. :confused:

Looks like a GT to me.
I am not an expert at sexing cichlids by any stretch but I cant even make a guess since the fins are not visible, what size are the fish? I would concur that my guess is male, most of the females I have seen in breeding pics have a circle spot design around thier eyes.:confused: I could be way wrong though.
Yep...that's definitely a GT next to that beautiful JD. Too colorful to be Blue Acara.

As for GT and Blue Acara...it doesn't need any bad angle or right angle...GT can be identified just the color on their head. *shrug* Maybe because I have had GT :D
yeah thats a green terror. ive had two, had to give them up when i moved halfway across contry. hard to tell what sex the dempsy is but id guess a female. could be wrong tho. well enjoy those fish, youve got some beauties.

The dempsey is a female. The shorter, squat body, shorter fins, and color on the lower part of the gill plate all shout female.
Here's a shot of my small male JD...bout 4". Note the elongated body and longer fins as well as a lack of color on the lower gill plate.

I think my Jack Dempsey is a male because the anal fin and dorsal fin are really long
