Anyone ever have an anemone split or reproduce? Is iodine recommended when keeping anemones? Anyone with answers and experiance please tell me what kind of chemicals your puttung in your water and what you may feel is ideal for keeping anemones, and perhaps what you think forces them to split.

My long tentacle anenome split into two. I just looked at the tank one morning and all of a sudden I was seeing two instead of one! I don't add any special chemicals, it is a tank with live rock, coral sand and a skimmer. I do the usual water changes, and I have heard that this is enough to replenish lost trace elements. However, I just bought some reef trace elements as I am planning on buying corals in the near future.

I've had many anemones split ( Clone is the other term you hear for this).

I add no additives. Iodine can be very dangerous to add. You can cause a ot of damage by adding too much. My personal opinion is do not add anything you can not meassure correctly. Do water changes on a regular basis and you have no need for additives in most tanks without high calcium users in it.

Thanks for the info. Im doing all the right things, I guess i'll just have to wait see what nature has planned for me and my anemones. Actually, my carpet once was releasing some stuff from his oral disc, then a few weeks later i saw a very small baby carpet anemone scaling the glass walls of my tank. it was only about the size of a dime. I haven't seen it in a while though, it may have died.
