I know that commercial ugf's have a series of plates that cover the whole of the bottom of the tank. When I have made my own I have used a grid of pvc pipe with pipes spaced about 1/2" apart and holes drilled on the bottom third of the pipe - so that the water points downward. I always thought this would help avoid flat spots in the water, i.e. spots that did not receive any oxygenated water.

Which idea do you think is better?

UGJ underground jet systems would be better IMO, but my opinion I could be wrong.
