I posted this on another board but want even more feedback. I will be setting up a 72g bow-front with fish and live rock. I'm looking for a good skimmer for it. Don't want to go with a el-cheapo. Something mid-range to low high range. As far as cost goes, well nothing over $200 for sure. I'm hoping to stay around the $100 area. Prefer used because of cost savings. Which would you recommend? Going to avoid corelife skimmers for sure. Was told berlin skimmers aren't much better. On the other site I was told to get a euro-reef brand of skimmer. I'm a little concerned on price. I posted an ad in the wanted area for this as well.

aquamedic makes a decent product. it's not the best but, it surely not the worst and you should be able to get one for less than $us 150

I have a used euro reef with a mag 3 pump. To make it known the Mag pump NEEDS a new impeller cover. I would be willing to part with it. PM me if your interested.

The Euroreef that JoJo mentioned is a good skimmer. When you're buying used you're better off seeing what is available via your local club, this site, etc. and then investigating any names/models you don't know of what is available.

Yup thats what I do. I find one for sale. Ask a few questions. Research it online. Then make the final decision. Best to know what your getting into so theres no surprises (actually I mean disappointments) later on.

Well as I said just so there are no disapointmemts the Mag 3 pump that comes with it will need to have the impeller cover changed it will NOT work without a new cover (or you'll ruin the pump).

Just to clarify. I would think the ideal skimmer would be rated for at least 100g. So a rs-80 would be ruled out. Anything less then I don't feel would be sufficient. Are ones by octopus any good? I heard they are comparable to the euro-reef but are cheaper.

jojo32: I know, you made that clear on your previous post. I was mainly interested in which model you have, the age of it, and condition (besides the missing cover of course). I have a feeling yours will be too small for my needs based on your response on the other board in your sig line.

Model is ES5-3 I can't nail down an age as I bought it used in a lot of equipment off of another reefer and I never used it). It is covered in old coraline but other than that is in good shape. I know chris conk (a wholesaler I know) uses one on his 110 with a 30 gallon sump and is quite happy with it.

The Octopus skimmers are suppose to be a very good skimmer, a friend of mine is running the Octopus 200 reciculating skimmer and it seems to be doing a very good job. I would put them above the ASM's and that is what I am running
