Hey folks,
I had a few fish get ick, I set up a quarantine tank and begain treatment with cupramine.

the fish are sitting near the bottom of the tank, breathing normal, moving about slowly.

they are still not eating. been in qt for 3 days. copper level is at .3

I even added garlic xtreme and still not eating.

also, I lost a fish. the fish that contaminated the tank. I never found it. pulled out all the rocks and NOTHING!

I am wondering what is normal for fish to do in a qt tank?

if the dead fish is wedged inside a rock, how bad is that? (a rotting corpse in the water)

when should I be worried about not eating?

thanks!

Hmm, you used rock in the hospital tank? In the future you want to use PVC pipe for the fish to hide in. It is easier to clean parasites off of, can be stored when the tank isn't in use and you won't be killing your live rock or making it unsuitable for use in the display tank again.

As for the cupramine, I use Coppersafe so not familiar with the Cupramine specs to follow. They each have specific directions and you need to make sure you have the right kind of test kit. Good that you are monitoring it of course.

What kind of fish are in the QT now? Mine didn't stay on the bottom like that.

no, I removed all the rock from the main tank. and couldnt find the dead fish.
think my hermits could have eaten a whole fish? (med. royal gramma)

I dont live rocks in the hospital tank. just one base rock that i am willing to toss when this is over.

If you have a big enough clean up crew they might have finished it off.

Using a carbon filter in a QT tank - good idea, or no? Does it matter much? I have a whisper filter that has a sponge for beneficial bacteria to grow on, but can also house a carbon filter - just don't know if I need it!

I would only use it if you were trying to remove something from your water for some reason, chem, pollutant etc.
