New Fry! Tips~

hey don't get mad but i've only just noticed that my pair of kribs have spawned and new babies are swimming around in the nest. I was away for a day and when I came back I saw these fish, I think its about the 50-100 mark. Can anyone give me some tips for keeping fry (generally and more specific).

They are in a 18gal with:
-2 zebra danios
-2 pristellas
-1 black widow
-2 algea eaters
-2 golden apple snails
-2 kribs + Fry

Just basic things from feeding to cleaning etc.
Last night I left a little light beside the nest I read that that helped the parents look after the Fry, But I wasn't sure if it was bright enough, its a green light (similar to glow in the dark stuff) and it seems to do the job but to they need a better light?

Also when the fry do become free swimming, should I take the target fish out? And my tank is about 79'F (26'C) and my pH is neutral, should I get a haul of males? or females?

Well u dont really have to do much because Kribs r excellent parents...just crush up flakes unto dust and put it in (works for me) or u can buy food specifically for them...thats pretty much it.usually the first batch dont survive.....good luck and have fun

For a 18G tank you have way too many fish. One of the algae-eaters is redundant. Imagin the tank with 50-100 extra fish in it.

However, that's a good problem to have. :)

yeah I'm thinking let the fry grow a little then i've got to find them a better home, first batch don't survive? hmm i'll be on the look out...

should i feed them straight away, they are not free swimming yet..

I will do so anyway, gonna do a tank clean..is this ok? I don't see how it wouldn't be but just checking

I thought, thats strange there seems to be less and less everytime I look, I took a small tube (for air pumps) and sucked up some crushed pellets with my mouth into the tube and then put it into the tank and blew out the pellets into the nest. and then the fry started disappearing, they moved them into another nesting site....lol I guess food was too hard to find, the only way was to stick my hand in there and release dust and hope it went in.

they are homed inside a peice of pottery now.

getting the fry fed is number one priority next to water quality.
Large balls of java moss make good food source and hide out.
Remember what you did to spark the spawning and try it again in controled conditions next time:D

fry are doing well, swimming around under the parents, i'm hoping to upload a few images of them.

not very good quality because I take screenshots from a video after i've recorded some footage.

should be up in a few days i guess. A clean seems to be hard because they are roaming all over the tank, if I try to clean it, I would almost certainly suck a few up.
