So far i have a 20watt lighting for my tank. and i have java moss, anubia nana, anarchis and some sword grass i think? not sure about that one because i got it from my friend. would my 20 watt aquaglo be strong enough? my main question is this. am i able to use my brothers old light setup that he had for his salt water setup? or would it be too strong? im not sure what kind of lamps he has but i do know it has a 3 light changer. the bright, blue, night light. sorry dont know the correct terms. any help?

A 20watt for what size tank??

The SW lights would be OK, but get rid of the Blue light (actinic), it is not needed for FW. With lots of light you will need C02 or you WILL get algae.

co2... and plants. a tank with just lots of light and co2, but no plants, will grow even more algae... NO?

True. Forgot the plants..:(

With the plants he has, he may not need more lights.

yes, sorry i have a 20 gal long. with plants that doesnt need heavy lighting and i dont have a job im still pretty young so i cant get into the co2 yet. i guess i just need to get a dual light and get 30-40watts? is that considered med lighting? or is it still low? what plants can i have in my tank that can handle the 20-40watt range without co2?

so i tried using my brothers light on my tank. i thought it would be bigger but i was wrong he had it on his 10 gal tank and mine is a 20long. but i still want to use his lighting so i dont have to waste my money buying a new one. recommend anything so i can use his lighting?
