hi all,
v r audio consultants and 1 of our clients has requested that v build a large aquarium as part of the bar decor in his discotheque.
the idea appears fancy enough, but i want to know if there will b adverse effects on the fish. i am not a fish lover, but i definitely don't want to kill anything as part of a decoration programme!

It's the magaritas poured into the aquarium that will kill fish, not the noise. Besides, fish as decor are expendable to such a client.
Who will take care of the aquarium? Better recommend an aquarium service.
The tank will be where customers can't mess with it I hope.

in my basement and there's a little soundproofing, but my 30 gal sits on a metal stand with hardwood floors... my fish are very active when there's sudden movements outside the tank, loud noises, or changes in light... I don't think there are any long-term adverse effects to fish due to high volume music, but, like tapping on a tank, fish will become very agitated by it for awhile...

I'm guessing at the type of music, but I doubt a heavy bass thump about every night would do any harm. It might seem like a nightly thunderstorm to the fish.
Customers must be prevented from introducing their favorite drinks into the aquarium....
A agree with wetmanNY to get an 'aquarium service' unless the "owners" will care for the aquarium.
Good Luck! Bet it's going to be a Large tank! :)

Many years ago my father decided to put some display tanks in area nursing homes for the folks to enjoy- we did all the maintenance as a method of advertising. Well- we had no end of trouble as far as their dumping things in, reaching in- even going fishing.
I would really suggest that the tank be placed in a wall so access is totally impossible- if there is any way someone can get into the tank someone will.
As far as the noise- my community tank sits right next to my husbands music room that houses an acoustic drum kit as well as many other serious noise making devices.
When we first decided to site a tank there I was concerned about the effect of his drum practice sessions disturbing the fish- he is quite loud and and the drums really vibrate that entire end of the house. The first couple of times he practised I sat and watched the fish to make sure they weren't jumping with every stroke of the bass drums- they showed no reaction at all.

If they are swimming in time to the music, they're probably in to it. If not, maybe you should change the music genre.
Enjoy,
