In researching a new canister filter, Rena seems to be much more popular then Fluval (I can't afford an Eheim). Quick question does the Rena system allow you to use your own media? I'm not interested in being forced to purchase special cartridges or pads.

Yes, there are multiple compartments that you can fill with whatever you want.

Go with the rena, had mine for over 2 years and no problems.
-yes you can put your own media in.
