I have some neon tetras and one gets left out of the school. I feal bad for the fish and wnat to know if there is something I can do to make him be accepted into the school or something I should do to make him happy. Any ideas or past experiences?

try getting a 10g tank with him and a few(6 or so) NEW neons then once he gets accepted into the group add that school with the old school and hopefully he will join in with the new larger shoal good luck

More likely than not you are just seeing diferent neons at different times who are not in the school. As far as I know while there can be a hierarchy in a school, Theres nothing that will drive the fish out of a school. they probably just feel too comfortable in the tank to need to school all the time. I have 6 in my tank and if you watch for long enough, they all leave the school for at least a little while except at night, where they all stay tightly schooled.

maybe the neon is sick and can't keep up with the rest of the shoal, is the fish of colour or showing any other abnormal behaviour besides staying on it's own?
Cheers.

most of the times, i usually dont see neons in schools in a nice cared-for tank.

they only school to make themselves feel more secure.
