Ok, after some unforeseen delays, i have finally gotten supplies ready to put together my light, but am confused on which wattage i should be going by to get the right wpg.

For instance, on the package it says it's a 60w but only uses 13w. So, to get the correct wattage, i'm going for low light so 1.5 to 2 wpg on a 30 g tank, which wattage do i go by? I'm thinking i should go by what the bulb is equivalent to (like a 60w). Is this right?

i know silly question, but i want to make sure i'm going to get what i need.

Thanks for your indulgence in a newbie to plants.

You'll want to use the actual wattage rather than the comparison wattage. For a 30g tank you'll want to use a pair of bulbs between 20-30w if you can fit them.

The equivalent rating is its equivalent in terms of how bright an incandescent bulb is it would replace. We dont use incandescent bulbs with plant tanks generally so those ratings have no meaning. Use the real wattage rating, and remember that with the spiral cfl's there is a lot of restrike so less light gets to the tank (meaning go a little higher wattage if possible).
