I am starting a new 46 gallon tank. I have 2 filters (Eheim 2213 and HOT Magnum) with media and running for about a week. I will be keeping Malawi cichlids, but the post in general, that's why I posted here. I am planning to use Bio Spira to quickly cycle the tank with fish. All reviews that I read on Bio Spira are very positive. I just don't quite understand when to add Bio Spira. I bought 3 fishes yesterday: 1 cat fish and 2 clown loachers (my bottom and glass maintenance crew). Since it's a new tank, the ammonia and nitrite at zero. Should I wait till I get the ammonia, before I buy Bio Spira? As I understand the bacterias in Bio Spira live on ammonia and nitrite. I don't want artificially add ammonia since I had fishes in my tank already. Should I overfeed my fishes, as to generate waste quicker or just monitor ammonia and when it spikes, buy Bio Spira? Claims by people who used it - it works within 24 hours.

Thanks.

Add it now--I think the instructions say to add it before adding the fish, wait 24 hours, put in fish, and re-dose if needed. The fish are already producing ammonia, just in small enough quantities that a hobbyist kit can't detect it. The bacteria will find it.
