Can snails be used to keep down algae in a tank with an oscar, or will the oscar kill/eat them?

Yeah, I feed my oscar extra ramshorns and pond snails sometimes, he just gulps them right down. Before I changed the substrate, I did have MTS living and breeding, since they stay buried almost all the time, so the oscar didn't have a chance to eat them. They didn't seem to do much for the algae though.

My oscar doesnt bother my mystery snail. The mystery snail is bigger then his mouth though so Im not too sure when he gets bigger

My Oscar ate a two inch pleco... I think he would eat a snail no problem!

Oscars might leave small snails alone, but larger apple snails might be killed/eaten.
