Man,

I seen a tank yesterday that I thought I would like to share for ya guys...

It was a 100 gallon salt tank but get the setup?

They had only ONE filter on the tank? It was a HOT MAGNUM hang off the back canister type... They are rated for 30 gallon tanks..

They did in fact have protein skimmer. SO all was ok there.. They also had undergravel uptakes. Four of them. All with large powerheads.. So movement looked ok there as well..

NO live sand substrate. Just regular river type gravel. It did have some coral in there but very little light . The tank looked hardly lit up at all. But it was a bluish type bulb it seems...

Heres the kicker, This tank has been operational for over 4 years all with the same fish in it... I have seen it many times but yesterday chose to go behind it and check it out.. I am always afraid of salt tanks as I hear they are a bear.....

The tank consists of

2 anenome
1 clown
1 grouper
1 eel
2 tangs
1 lionfish

I am currently running a cichlid tank that has filtration at the wazzoooo...

It has an AC300, 2 filtered powerheads, and a magnum 220 canister... All on a 55gallon... I think someday I might give salt a try... What the heck.....

Figured I'd share this with all of you for the heck of it...

Different setups work for different people. I have come to the conclusion that mechanical filtration is worthless with SW. My filter clogged constantly, and the activated carbon needed replacing every week. However, there are those who swear by filters and would never run a tank without one. It all depends...

The first few months of that tank must have been a violent time...

Thare are many ways to run SW tanks. I have tanks that have an UGF and LR. It is clean as can be and the anemone and fish have been in it for over 2 years. I also have tanks with power filters and no skimmer, and filters and skimmers. They all work.
