Hello,
Just got all registered for this site and am amazed at the amount of marine aquarium info now available online. Much different from the days when I first started keeping marines.
I started keeping marine fish about 10 years ago, but have only recently set up my tank again after a 5 year lay-off from fishkeeping. So, although I am not really a beginner, I sure feel like one after checking out the wealth of new information available online now. I have set my tank up the way it used to be, but will be "modernizing" a bit over the next 6 months or so.
The first think I'd like to replace is my old 18" high venturi skimmer. (I have no idea who made it). Any suggestions in the $250 range including pump and no more than 21" tall?
Thanks!

Welcome to AC! To answer your question, I believe that Remora make a skimmer that is less than 21" tall and costs in the neighborhood of $200. I am going by memory there, so I may be off a little.
AquaC and Euro-Reef both have nice skimmers that range in the 18 to 21 inch height. I'd look into those.

I would also suggest Aqua C & Euroreef as well as ETSS, Tunze. Lifereef, Deltec.

Thanks for the skimmer suggestions. I'll do some research and come back with more questions if any come up.

Anyone have a recommendation for an outside hanging or below non-sump skimmer for a 125?
Thanks,

I know the Aqua C's can be run external from the sump, I think the Euro-Reef's can too.

Are you looking for a Han On Tank skimmer or one to sit inside the cabinet next to the sump?

I would rather hide it under the tank, but....
I can hang one off the back if necessary,I looked at the red sea hangons and they seem OK.
What I am thinking of, is a large skimmer (with large pump_ 1200gph), like a canister filtier, set under the tank, an in and out line to the tank, no sump, that won't overflow when the power goes off...
Thanks,

The pump I mentioned is probibly not the pump described. Apololgies to all manufactures.
Now, sell me a good 1200gph pump for $200.

Clay,
I do not know of one made that works that way.

I've never used a Red Sea Hang on so I can not comment. I've Used the Prizim, The Knop, The CPR Bak-pak, The Remora Aqua-c Pro. I prefer the Remora Aqua-C Pro. I would not use a Prizim again unless heat in the tank was an issue. The Knop and the CPR are about equal in between the other two. I would chose between the Knop and CPR based on price.
