Hi All,

Ive just found a heap of tadpoles in the kids old paddeling pool (its a big one 15' dia. and 2' deep)
It was in the back of the garden waiting to be set up.
It was empty a few weeks ago and has since filled to about 10" deep with rain water.

My question is: does anyone know of any issues with using tadpoles as feeders?

cheers
Rich.

I've used them for peacock bass, the only thing you might want to be wary of is parasites from wild frogs and the like.

it can work if you want, but it may be better to breed your own feeders if you really want to use feeders.

I also used to breed guppies as feeders for my bass.

thanks

Ive got cons and gudgeons as feeders already and get feeder goldfish as a treat every few weeks. Im thinking of setting up a guppie tank as feeders also as the cons and gudgeons dont keep up with fishes appetite and they get a fair bit of frozen and pellet food too.

I was more concerned that the tadpoles of some frog/toads might be toxic

Cheers
Rich.

I'd rather not risk using them regardless of the species of frogs they are from.

I see you're from Australia so I have one BIG question before you go feeding your fish these tadpoles. Do you have Cane Toads around where you live? If so they're tadpoles are poisonous to most animals and possibly to your fish as well.

i suggest feeding tadpoles

i feed them to my oscars, peacoks, and tilapia

Certain species of tadpole are poisoness so unless you know your tadpoles and frogs i wouldnt try it. Specially if they are canetoad tadpoles (big glossy black, swarms around in a big school) they will kill your fish most definatly.

You're on the gold coast which is canetoad area, even if you havent seen any canetoads they have slowly been moving south over the years so please be aware
