I am ordering the 96 watt bright kit from AH Supply. Which bulb is best for a planted aquarium - 5000K or 6700K?

Daylight is 6400K so I guess the 6700K would be the closest to real daylight.

try if you can to get a mix of 5500 and 6500

like 2 of each if possible

Since the CF bulb is 96 watts, I'll only need one bulb for my 30 gallon tank. So I'll only be able to choose one or the other, either 5000 or 6700.

Both will work though the 6500 is theoritically better

Either of those is fine, go with the one that looks best to you. Unfortunately, I can't find photos online of the different color temperatures about 5000, so it's hard for you to see them, isn't it. Best I can say is that 5000 will be a warmer looking bulb, more at the red end.

there won't be a noticable difference between the two for plant growth. just depends on your personal like. I like the 6700 myself seems to bring out the colors better.

I like the more blue light myself. I have an 8,800k 96w PCF and I like it very much. I haven't seen a 5,500, 6,700 or 10,000 so I have nothing really to compare it to. I don't like real yellow light though.
