I just got a small Carpinte from Jeff Rapps. That little fellow is only an inch. He is living in the community tank right now with my Blood Parrots and Severums until the Carpinte reaches 2". However, right now I don't know what to feed that little guy (too small to tell what sex is that fish). I threw in Color granules, Sticks for my BPs and Severums, and flakes for my loaches. All my other big fishes are messy fish. They cause a lot of food debris as they chew. Well, the Carpinte seems like eating from the debris, but also spitting a lot out too. Maybe I should feed him something else?!

Any suggestion? He is only an inch big.

Colorbits, ground up shrimp, FD plankton, Spirulina discs...
Did you get the Escondido? I have one now that I got a long while back. In my and a few others experiences with them they are slow growers. They look amazing after about 3-4" thats when the color and size really starts to come out. I currently keep mine in a 150gallon tank with a Lyonsi and Centrachus, so far so good but the Escondido is a rough character so Im sure it wont be long before hes solo in one of my 75s

Yes, I did get the Escondido. See the forum opened by me about sharing pictures. He is there. Well, can't tell the sex right now. That fish is too small to be able to tell.

Yeah, I let him grow up a bit before I move him to the other tank...the more aggressive tank. Right now he is being protected by my Blood Parrots (the aggressive tank has bigger and more bully fish). He is actually living with my BPs. My Red Face Severum trying to nip at him, but my big bully Blood Parrot came to the rescue and kick the Red Face's butt. Right now, my Carpinte stick to the Big BP like my BP is his parent. Funny to watch.

I would move it to a tank by itself until it beefs up a little... it is probably shy from the move and probbaly won't compete well for food with the larger fish.

Actually, he came out a lot right now...knowing that my Big Blood Parrot is there. He either stays in the log or the bell. As long as he is around the BPs, he feels safer and got plenty to eat. My BPs are messy eaters. They ground the food up all the time. My Carpinte ate from whatever fell out from the BPs' mouth. He is one cute and beautiful little fellow.

I will stop by the LFS to find out what I can get (food wise) for this little guy.
