One of my crypts in my shrimp tank, it's roots started to grow sticking up like toothpicks. Originally I tied it to the driftwood and the roots just laid down. But now I noticed a few of the new roots are starting to grow up right. Is this normal, and I also dose with flourish maybe every 2 weeks or so, not very often.

I thought crypts can go either or?

:( gunna be a pain to rip off an established crypt off driftwood? Do you also know what is causing the roots to stick up?

I've never heard of crypts growing on woods either. Plant them to the substrate. Only a few plants can grow on wood such as Java moss, Java ferns and anubias.

Heres the picture, you can see it a bit..

I would follow this advice.

So the toothpick appearance of roots is that caused due to being grown on driftwood instead of gravel.. or what.

I keep hearing about putting it in gravel, but is there really a cause or explanation of the roots growing upward...

I think the upright growth is just looking for food, crypts are root feeders. Try a small amount of food down where they need it, in the gravel. (it could also be less than optimal planting)
