Hi all, while cleaning out my tank, I decided to clean under the bogwood, so I lifted it up and noticed a work type creature, I caught it in the net and got some pics (below) Its about 2" long, it has got loots of 'legs' all the way down its body and swims like a 'snake', does anybody know what it is and is it a threat to my fish as I think I saw anotherone which got away from me and is still in the tank
Thanks

Freshwater tank? This looks very much like a marine bristleworm. I'm not aware of a FW comp, but that doesn't mean there is not one. Search for aquatic annelids, or Oligochaetes.

If I were you I would remove them at least until they are identified as a precaution. I would also avoid touching it with your bare hand.

I think it might be a Polychaete rather than an Oligochaete. Try searching under that instead.
Looks like Nereis to me (“ragworm”). There are some freshwater Nereidae, most are euryhaline to marine.

I have recently come across these as well in my freshwater tank. I have 4 of them in a plastic dish with tank water. I looked up ragworm, as previously posted, but it doesn't look quite the same. In the water they move in an S like pattern like a snake when the dish is disturbed.
Trying to figure out where they came from, and if they are dangerous or beneficial.

Intestinal worms won't last more than a few minutes outside their host, besides which they're seldom expelled unless dead.

If they are a freshwater bristleworm, are they dangerous to the inhabitants of the tank?

I figured if it has to do with the exact same thing, it didn't matter. I wasn't able to take any pics. People would be able to see the pics and be able to respond.
