I have a 20 gal established tank. I would like to add fish to it and I would like suggestions. I used to have a ciclid, but I traded it in cause it got too big for the tank. I would love to get some more ciclid but I'm not sure what type can live in that size tank. Could you help? -Thanks, Casey

Most calvus will live in 10g if alone, so a 20g with a few community fish should work :)

I have one of these, a 'compressed' calvus...

They're easy to maintain and are lower on the semi-aggressive side (will play nice with most other semi-aggressive fish).

I used to have 6 black ruby barbs (puntius negrofaciatus?) in my 20 gall high. They don't get very large and they are not extremely aggressive. They also eat algae.
good luck

If the tank has been fishless for very long (more than 3-5 days) and you have no source for ammonia, the tank is no longer biological 'established', and you will experience ammonia spikes when fish are re-introduced.

There are many dwarf cichlids that would be happy in that size tank, depending on other parameters. Apistos would top my list.

A tank with 10 Neon Tetras would be nice, but if you're leaning toward cichlids look at the Rams.

Use the search feature to find a thread in the Cichlids forum entitled "Shellie Links". That will tell you about a beautiful Tanganyikan dwarf cichlid suitable for a hard alkaline tank.
