I had a very large(body was four in.long)fire shrimp and he came up missing.
Tank contains:
Flame angel
b.cardinal
pyj cardinals
flame cardinal
r.gramma
neon velvet damsel,4inches
four stripe damsel
serpent star
pencil urchin

Since he was so huge I cannot figure out who offed him.
Anybody have any ideas?

The flame or the damsels may have done it. What about your water parameters? Perhaps something's changed recently that normally was stable. Did you buy him large or have you had the guy for awhile? Sorry 'bout the questions, just trying to figure out what's going on.

How long has he been missing? We have a pair, and they hide out for about 2 days following a molt.

None of the fish looks particularly suspect. One possibility was that it had a bad molt and got devoured. Sometimes they don't quite get out of the old clothes, and the rest of the inhabitants can't pass up a nice soft meal.
Or it could be hiding.

He has been missing for over a week.
I also have two h.h. mantis shrimp left.Removed four already.
They are about an inch and a half long.Much too small to take out a large fire shrimp ,one would think.
My reg. cleaner shrimp is still there and he molted last night.

1.5 inch mantis sound big enough to knock off a fire shrimp, IMO. Smashers or spearers?

i would say it was the mantis shrimp they are pretty powerful for there size and can take out just about anything
