We have a male and female betta, the male has been in a vase for about 6 months the female we just bought yesterday. Is it possible to have these fish as tankmates or will they not be a happy couple. Also what size tank and what setup is the best for them.

Here is a site I would recommend, www.bettatalk.com

The short answer is that this is probably not a good idea. The male and female will fight. If they do spawn, they will fight even after spawning. My suggestion would be two side to side bowls. That way they can still see each other and interact but will be separate and won't harm each other.

I'd suggest getting a 5 or 10 gallon tank with a divider to keep them seperated. Then they can have a nice roomy easy to care for home without the fighting. All you need is a tank, heater and a sponge filter. Cheap and easy :)
