Hello,

We're moving from the States to Germany, and I want to bring my 5 tropical fish with me. They're not expensive or exotic; however, I still want to bring them, if possible.

I'm hoping to hear from someone who has traveled trans-Atlantic with fish by air. I've read some of the postings regarding air travel w/ fish, which is what we'll be doing (obviously), but I'm wondering if anyone has actually tried to import tropical fish into Western Europe? Should I even attempt this?

The fish I have are Black Mollies, Sailfin Mollies, and Platys. And we're moving to Frankfurt.

If anyone out there has experience doing this, I'd love to hear from you!

Thanks,
J.

Be careful, your fish my get stuck in customs for a month. Quarintine period and all.

I don't think quarantine will be an issue. Especially if you are moving within the military (are you?). There usually is no quarantine even for larger animals between the US and Germany.

Isn't there anybody you could leave your fish with? I know you probably care a lot, but to put them through all this...There are wonderful fish stores in Germany. Just start over. You get to have that "new fish" smell again:D

If they come with the tank I would take them off of your hands, my daughter loves mollies and was heartbroken when her last few died.

Thanks for the suggestions. Yeah, I know I should probably find a new home for them here. I've just taken such good care of them, and I'd sort of feel like I'd be abandoning them. Especially the black mollies, who have been so needy, constantly getting infections. I just don't know if I could find anyone else who would be as patient w/ them and willing to spend the time & money on meds.

No, we're not moving w/ the military. It's a corporate relocation, but I don't think the company would humor my request for them to pay hundreds to have these fish transported professionally.

Dave, the aquarium is coming w/ us. :)

just thought I would offer, I have plenty of space but the mollies would end up as snacks in my tank.
