I got a 75 pack of BioBalls a few weeks ago because I needed a few for my DiY CO2 diffuser. I have nearly 70 left and I don't have a canister yet. Would it work to put the BioBalls in my Emperor 400s? Like behind the pad?

Hope others reply too, but I'd stick with what the manufacturer recommends. They know the design and how the flow should be thru the filter..

I don't see where it would cause a problem...Stick them in one side of the emperor and see what happens. They really shouldn't restrict flow. More surface for bacteria to adhere to is always nice :)

i had one of those bigger walmart filters. just like an emperor but without the biowheel and only 1 filter cartridge on each side so it left a lot of room in front of the filter cartridge. and i stuffed a bunch of bioballs in there and they would stay cleaner because it was only exposed to clean water.

I heard that if eyou get an air stone attached to an air punp and stick it in there with bio balls it is supposed to make a bacteria colony. Seems like it would work to me.

blitzen25bm..The reagent filters are actually made in the same plant as the penguin filters. Marineland even offers a retro fit kit that contains the bio-wheels, braces, bearings, and a new hood. I think it cost me 15$ or so at a LFS. I got the regent in one of the walmart package deals for w 29gallon tank. Not saying this would be better then what you currently have but not many people know about it thought I would spread the word :)

anaxus. yea i knew that but i dont really use that filter anymore, sometimes for water circulation or i just stuff it and use it to polish. started upgrading all the tanks earlier so i got a ton of tanks 5-40 gallons put into storage and a bunch of filters from the smaller whispers to AC500s to HOT magnums. only brought the regent because only walmart was open at 11. Got a wetdry setup with the 180 so all my tanks are getting switched over to 125 or larger and i am only going to use wetdrys now, built a few myself and they are the easiest filters.
