I went out to Petsmart this morning for dog shampoo and had to look at the fish section of course.:) They had gotten in a small shipment of cherry red shrimp. (hadn't even unpacked them yet)
These are only a little over a 1/4 inch size and will cost 4.99 !!!

Two questions:

1. Is this a goshawful price?

2. Do you think either my harlequin rasboras or panda cories would be overly interested in trying to eat them since they are this small? My largest rasbora is about an inch...

I went ahead last night and bought 4 of these for my ten gallon tank. I think they are actually closer to half an inch long. Even with all the plants, I can find three of them this morning. The rasboras don't even seem to acknowledge their presence and the two panda cories seem to be allowed to sit near them without fear. If they are still getting along okay tomorrow, perhaps I will get a couple more. Their color is not as bright a red as I've seen pics of. The local fish store thought two of the ones I got were male and two female. They also said the males get a brighter color. Some reading I've done indicates they may be right. There just doesn't seem to be a lot of information out on them.

I love my Cherry reds, they are better algae eater than my Amano shrimp. When they settle down there red color will be very nice. Just keep your Rasboras well fed, it should be OK. Just keep a eye on your cories since catfish will eat anything. If you are planning to let them breed later down the road get rid of the cories.
The price you paid is good, I got mines for $3.50 each at 1/2".
I brought 6 for my 10 gal plant tank about a year ago. In that tank I have 6 Glowlights tetras, 4 Otto, 6 Amano and 2 SAE.
Since my tank is over grown they have a place to hide and breed. But I found my SAE eating my Cherry reds one morning. So out went the SAE. Now without the SAE I counted about 24+ Cherry reds that I can see in my tank.
Make sure you get some female Cherry reds. They have a wider strip on there back and a full skirt.

Good luck
Ken

I just picked up some Rasbora, they are now in my 4.5gal plant plant. The Rasbora I got is called Erythromicron.
I will have picture in the end of the month.

Thanks for the info Ken. :) There is a java moss tangle in the tank two of the shrimp hide in most of the time. The other two are out in sight more. They seem to be starting to color up more now but I still can't tell their sex.
