I am thinking about changing the gravel in my 125 gallon to sand. I have read some places that you do not have to wash this sand and was wondering if that was true.
Thanks.

I had to rinse mine like crazy, because it was horrible dusty. Other people don't have that experience. FYI, three 50lb bags should be what you're looking for to fill a 125 gallon. One bag works on a 55 gallon.

I would wash it any way, it's always best to be safe rather than sorry.

Always rinse it...never know what might be in that bag other than the sand. ;o)

Pool filter sand is heavy and will settle quickly. I did the bucket rinse method but didnt even have to as it didn't even cloud the water in the bucket.

Be careful if you have one of those magnetic algae scrapers. Where one side is on the outside of the tank and the other is on the inside. Go down about 2 inches from the sand all around the tank. Then do the last two inches. You don't want to pick up a piece of sand between the two pieces and then drag it all over your tank scratching the glass or acrylic....
